CONVERSATIONS WITH JOZY: SAMO KAGAATI

London-based promoter, Exposed Uganda Ent UK presents their first major event of the year Nva Kampala scheduled for the first May Bank Holiday weekend on 30th April 2016 at The Royal Regency Banqueting Hall in East London.  The music event will feature a line-up of young high-flying Ugandan artists including Winnie Nwangi, Apass, Nince Henry, Adam Mulwana, Samo Kagaati and Leah Habz. The hotly anticipated concert's promotion and publicity is being handled by JF Solutions marketing company and myself  ‘Lady Boss’ Jozy  will be hosting the night. Here I talked to Samo Kagaati one of Uganda's fastest rising artist making a name for himself and will be performing on the night so that my readers and London can get to know him a little bit better ahead of the show.

Background: I grew up in Rakai Kyotera and now live in Kampala, Uganda. You may know me from my hit song Mineral Water.

On his early days in music. I began my music journey at my village school and later joined a church. Music is my inspiration. I feel free whenever am recording a song and music if like food to my soul.  My music has a universal message and so I like to sing to people from all walks of life about real live issues.

NVA KAMPALA is my first international show. I was scouted by a local Ugandan promoter (I don't know if am allowed to say who) in December. I thought  it was a joke or a prank so I didn't tell anyone about it but it was true as later I was getting booked for a passport and visa. I am so happy I can’t believe I will be performing my music to a whole new audience in London. It is a dream come true.

Londoners can expect to be entertained. I sing and I dance and I plan to entertain. It’s what I do and so we are going to have a good time together.

Some of my hit songs include; Mineral water, Blue band ft Ziza Bafana, One day ft Yung MuloZaabu,  and Money. I am working on some special music this year so you will hopefully be the first to hear it Jozy.

I promote my music using social media like Facebook,  Radio and TV, YouTube,   I have had great support from  DJ DinTv and other Djs and am so grateful for their support.

I am not signed to any music label and management and so all the work is handled by Team Samo Kagaati at the moment. It is not easy but the struggle goes on. I just want to work but hopefully soon things will change.

Collaboraions are very important in a sense that you share the platform with someone you admire. So far I have collaborated with amazing artists such as  Ziza Bafana (Blueband, Bend Over ,Dance), Yung Mulo (one day), King Saha (Mummy and Daddy), Pallaso (Nyongera)  and more recently we have just shot the video with Gravity (Kyekyo).
Advice to those starting out in music. Work hard, be loyal to your team and avoid conflicts with fellow artists. Remember why you are doing this.

SHOWERS JALLOH TO PERFORM LIVE AT KITENGE FESTIVAL UK

Kitenge Festival UK has announced Sierra Leone's rising star and humanitarian Showers Jalloh will perform at this year's African cultural event. Kitenge Festival UK aim is to unite, educate and promote African fashion, culture, business & the arts in the UK. The one day event is sponsored by Salabed and is a unique platform which showcases Africa’s valuable, distinctive and unique heritage in a carnival atmosphere whilst instilling a sense of African pride.

In its 4th year now, the event has grown exponentially and has become a major cultural event drawing local and international crowds. It is designed to appeal to influential figures, community leaders, movers and shakers, taste makers that take active roles in setting the mould for style, cultural trends and overall ingenuity within the African Community and the general public in the UK.

Born in Kamakwie, Sierra Leone, West Africa, Showers Jalloh is a talented musician with the gift of instantly touching people's hearts with his voice. This Sierra Leone Excellence Award-winning, multicultural artist has gigged as the front man for bands in The Gambia, Sierra Leone and UK.
He brings energy and passion to live music, a soulful singer and crowd pleaser, he always engages the audience. Showers is a joy to see on stage and he turns up the heat in any venue with his positive charisma.

This brilliant performer has performed at Crawley Mela Festival, Canterbury Music Festival (headline act), South Bank Refugee week, Folkestone Around The World Music Festival, Westfield East and West London (Westfield Presents), Dover Music Festival (Headline Act), to name but few.

Showers loves to explore various facets of his voice in different genres of music. From afrobeats, reggae, soul and funk, to dance and gospel music. ''As a songwriter, I compose what I feel and I'm inspired  by different styles, people and environments. The message and emotion of each song are most important to me''.
The young but experienced singer's lyrics are regularly enriched with uplifting and positive messages, and Showers is currently composing songs for his second EP which he hopes to release in 2016.
In 2013 he was nominated by MasterPeace to perform one of his songs called 'One Blood' at MasterPeace Music concert in Istanbul. The song is about world peace and unity, as a testimony of his experiences during the ten years of war in his country Sierra Leone. He is also part of Aruna Jalloh foundation, a charity set up by his family to support the less privileged in his home town Kamakwie the country as a whole. Aruna Jalloh foundation has supplied books for the Kamakwie library and holds a yearly cultural and education festival in the town to raise funds which are used to support the town and to educate its people in the context of their culture.

As an artist, Showers  feels it's his responsibility to inspire the young generation, so he joined a company called Child to Child where he is recording educational radio programmes for children in Kailaihun (Sierra Leone). The programmes are currently being broadcast in Kailahun and the children are loving it.

Showers took part in the campaign for peace in Sierra Leone, in 1999, through a group called 'Gospel Campaigners for Peace' and in 2009, he also took part in the campaign to emancipate a town in Southern Sierra Leone called 'Yenga' and its people. This town was still under the control of Guinean authorities even though the war was over for seven years.
''Being a singer, I think it’s my duty to use my talent to promote peace not just in my country but all over the world".

The Festival's Founder and organiser Jo Nganda said "We are pleased to have Showers Jalloh as he is a champion of peace not only in his native Sierra Leone but also to the rest of Africa. He is a special addition to the history of Kitenge Festival UK.

LISETTE MIBO ANNOUNCED AS GUEST SPEAKER AT KITENGE FESTIVAL UK 2016

Kitenge Festival UK has announced Congolese Humanitarian and Model Lisette Mibo as a guest speaker at this year's cultural event.
Lisette Mibo is an award-winning model based in the United Kingdom. She was born in the city of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where she lived until age 14. She moved to London in 2002 to get reunited with her family and to pursue her education. After obtaining a BA degree in Criminology and Sociology at the University of Middlesex in the year 2011, she decided to embark in an international modelling career. In that successful pursuit, Lisette's hard work has been rewarded with many recognitions and awards. She has been featured on the covers of many magazines, in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Among other magazines that have featured her are DivaScribe magazine (UK), Amina magazine (France), OhYes magazine (Ghana), Tropics Magazine (South Africa), Zen magazine (Nigeria), just to name a few. She received the Best Female Model Awards at the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television Award (BEFFTA) in 2012, then at the Congolese Achievement Award in 2013. In early January 2016, at UWC Atlantic College, she gave a very well received TEDx Talk on the topic of "Living On the Edge" where, while recounting her journey from the Congo to the United Kingdom, she stressed on the necessity of always striving forward in spite of life's challenges. Moved by the urge to put people together, Lisette founded Passion for Motherland (PFM) in 2013, a Platform with the objective to raise funds and awareness intended to support existing organizations running empowering projects at grassroots level in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For three consecutive years, through PFM, the Model turned Humanitarian had organised community showcases, which had brought together more than three hundred people in order to support emerging talents in the areas of Fashion, Music and Poetry.
In December 2015, however, she travelled back to Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to pay her last respects to her grandmother, a woman who had played a key role in her life. Whilst there, she realized just how dreadful the situation of street children living in Kinshasa was, and felt a moral duty to intervene. She has, as a result, made a conscious decision to be part of the solution. And this decision has given birth to a new mission for Passion for Motherland as an organisation, which will commit to empower both street boys and girls in Kinshasa through education, skills acquisition, micro-economic loans, medical assistant, just to name a few. Lisette Mibo believes into the principle of sending the elevator down to bring more people up.
The Festival's Founder and organiser Jo Nganda said "We are pleased to have Lisette back again this year as a guest speaker after she helped host the event last year. She is doing amazing work in the Congo with her charity Passion for Motherland who better to tell us about the story of Africa?
