How did
you get your name?
It started when i treid to get an email adress and
all alterations of my names were already taken. At the time i was a bass
guitarist, so i thought of adding bass to goddie (which is short for godfrey)
and i got godiebass @…..com which i still use. Then when i started playing the
saxophone and was thinking of a brand name i thought of using godiebass and
just added “on sax” thus ending up with goddiebass on sax!
How long
have you been performing?
Professionally, i have been playing the bass guitar
for about 20 years now. In terms of the saxophone it has been about 8 years
now. I have always been musically active, as a young boy i was in the school
choir, also sang in church and was also a memebr of kamali brass/matching band.
What did you
do before you got into music?
It has always been music for me, straight from
school, i joined a band called the big five, then went on to work for another
band called wakw waka straight form there at the age of 23 i signed a contract
with the afrigo band which was a step up - it paid well and was at the time
uganda’s best / favourite band.
What made
you realise you wanted to pursue a career in music?
Ho ho….i can only say it has always been gods plan
for me. There have been times when i thought it was the end of my music
career but just at the end or before exist, something better and exciting came
up. That’s why i say it was gods’ plan!

your music in three words
Exciting, Sweet, And Realxing.
What has been
your biggest challenge on your music journey?
I am self thought so i put a lot of time and effort
in training. At times balancing family life can be difficult - there is
that feeling of guilt not spending enough time with my wife and kids.
Secondly, the saxophone and all it’s accessories are expensive, so replacing
any item does not come cheap. And thirdly finding competent connection in
terms of securing jobs/ contracts.
And top of all that, at times people can be
discouraging, scornful and disrespectful with their remarks. But at the
same time there those who are very encouraging and show a lot of love and
interest for my work/ music.
Music has
a great impact on the young. What advice do you have for the youth that listen
to your music?
My advice to them is to just listen and enjoy, and
to remember that it’s a byproduct of a combination of both interest and of true
love. Those who are striving to become musicians - stay committed, work hard,
and keep desiring to achieve; and most importantly they should believe
that god is on their side. The bible says that all good gifts come from god, so
it’s important to remember that it’s his grace that sees us through.
What do
you enjoy best, studio or a live stage? How would you get the public to support
live music and shows?
Without question live stage… it feels so magical -
especially if it has a good combination of musician.
To get the public to support live music, i will say
it should have good sound equipment, have qualified engineers to deal with the
sound, have reasonable priced tickets and ofcourse a good venue would be
ideally encouraging.
What is
your musical influence and is it any similar to your music?
Traditional church hymes, brass band style, ofcourse
african folk, reggae, classical, funck, blues, gospel and jazz.
Most of my music is a fusion of all the above. You
can get a feel of african folk, jazz, and a bit of reggae influence depending
on which song i am playing.
What
image/message does your music conveys and why did you choose this image/message?
It’s relative to each individual song. Being
instrumental music it can convey different moods/ messages for different
individuals. Some of the songs may reflect romance, sadness and happiness
and so on….
Which
of your songs would you not mind performing over and over again?
Almost all my songs. But if i have to pick
one, then it will be - my heart.
Where
would you like to see yourself in the next 5 years as an artist?
By the grace of god, i would hope to be performing
internationally, in big festivals and conferences.
As an
artist how would you define success?
Every artiste may define sucess differently
depending on thier artistic journey. Personally, if i make music which inspires
the world and become internationally recognised, get a few collaborations with
some big names /lables and ofcourse some good money attached to my name, then i
will that call that success.
What are
your up to date performance plans, new releases, tours, news?
Looking forward to performing at 2 Beloved Gala later in the Summer.
I am also working on my album which i’m hoping to
completed in march. Once finished, announcements for the lounch & release
date will be out, so watch this space! Also don’t forgt that i perform at
weddings and special events, all kinds of parties such as birthdays,

What
makes your music unique/different from other artists?
Music has been my life as far as i can remember. I
play different instruments such as bass guitar, drums, the saxophone etc. The
ability to play different instruments actually helps to enhance me musically. I
have been exposed to different geners, involved in some big projects and
have developed great skills and technics which enables me great and sweet
music. So…. I consider it unique because i make it!

I find it easier to express my feelings through my music. I would like
everyone to communicate this way through music. My music in three
words is liberating for others. My biggest challenge on my music journey has been awaiting feedback and
promoting a song. Music has a great impact on the young. My advice to them
is to concentrate on the lyrics more than
the beats. I enjoy a live stage any day because of the atmosphere
and the crowd helps me perform best. My musical influence is rreal life stories what people are going through all over the
world. I hope to send messages through my music so people can relate. I am very
versatile with my music so every song sends out a different message. “Ensi Etukuba” is the
one song of mine I don’t
mind performing over and over again. My own life experiences
and it motivates me to continue my journey. In the next 5 years as an artist I’d
like to progress the way Eddy
Kenzo has, world wide success. Some people think success is all about money but for me I believe
success is achieving everything you set out to achieve and for me that is
having my music heard worldwide.
