UK HAS CAUGHT JOSE CHAMELEONE FEVER! WALE WALE EASTER TOUR

East Africa's King of Afrobeat Dr. Jose Chameleone is heading to the UK this weekend for the long awaited most talked about WALE WALE Easter Tour. The sell out tour will take in Manchester on 03 April and London on 04 April with Londoners declaring Saturday Jose Day!

Its been a tough two weeks for Uganda's finest musician in history Dr. Jose Chameleone a.k.a Joseph Mayanja.  The musician has just lost his young brother and protege fellow musician  AK47 (Emmanuel Mayanja) with whom he was very fond of.

The timing couldn't have been worse as Chameleone already had a confirmed  Annual Easter Tour in  London dubbed the  Wale Wale Tour. The Tour is organised by Romiam Ents and Exposed Uganda Ents. and will take place in Manchester (03 April) and London (04 April).

 Everyone was holding their breath following the  tragedy especially as AK47 is a friend  and colleague to many in  the Ugandan Entertainment Connection UK  but news finally has reached our  HQ that Dr. Jose Chameleone has confirmed to the organisers that the show will go ahead as a special tribute to his late brother AK47. That's a real trooper!

We gave a sigh of relief because it takes a certain professionalism for one to put aside his  raw pain and suffering due to a family loss and tragedy to show up and get the job  done.

Chameleone will be supported by UK based artists VJ Oj, Bella Mubiru, Jean Brown, MYA and Dennis Lama.

CHEMICAL REACTION LEA HABZ FT. VJOJ: VIDEO RELEASE PARTY

With so much Ugandan music out there its hard to separate the good from the bad and downright fuzzy.  While you may not recognise Vj Oj just yet you better bet your top dollar he will be everywhere before 2015 ends.

He has been tapped by everyone on Ugandan music to write, produce or direct their music but it's very clear this year he's breaking out in a major way from behind the scenes and onto the international stage. Oj sings about Love in its entirety and the message is always not lost on his fans.  We are seeing more collaborations with music heavy weights such as Radio and Weasel and most recently music's darling Lea Habz who is another artist on the casp of superstardom. 

I am so proud of these two dedicated to their music and raising the flag for Uganda music on a global stage.

This is one entertainer that never sleeps making hit after hit and with an International Afro Beats BEFFTA Awards nomination under his belt, there's little doubt that his invasion of the Afrobeat charts will continue. 

CONVERSATIONS WITH JOZY: MUSIC SPOTLIGHT WITH SPILLA

I caught up with UK based Ugandan musician Spilla ahead of his latest hotly anticipated new release KOLOLO https://soundcloud.com/spilla_don/kololo-dance-spilla-don. The jet setting artist has enjoyed much success over the last year following his collaborations with Pallaso and their mega hit Ntwala. With more collaborations under his belt he is now enlisting Uganda's best producers like Nash Wonder. Spilla says he's just getting warmed up and the fans are taking notice. 

How did you get your name?

My Baptism of the the name Spilla was during my teenage years back in school. We used to do freestyle battles and my deadly flow lead to the birth of the name. ‘ The Lyrical spilla’...because every time i freestyled i was spilling ill flows.

How long have you been performing and what did you do before you got into music?

I’ve always loved making rhymes and performing. I even remember gathering my little friends in primary school to sample them. Hahaha.

What made you realise you wanted to pursue a career in music?

It was always on mind that as soon as I’m able to, I will always pursue my dream.

Describe your music in three words 

Versatile Ultra-hot  Afro-Dancehall

What has been your biggest challenge on your music journey?

Getting my music to the appropriate audience in a timely manner. In simple terms - distribution.

Music has a great impact on the young. What advice do you have for the youth that listen to your music?

I always work hard to achieve everything I’ve achieved to date. So stay focused and work hard because any realistic dream is achievable because hard work pays.

What do you enjoy best, studio or a live stage? How would you get the public to support live music and shows?

Spilla: I enjoy live stage most. I get to interact with my fans and get a real response that’s where i get my buzz from. I always give my performances the best energy I possibly can give and hope to leave my fans satisfied.

What is your musical influence and is it any similar to your music? 

My music has a mixture of Caribbean and African influences, this gives it a broader audience.

What image/message does your music conveys and why did you choose this image/message?

Just being happy and fun. I chose this message because with this modern day world people are working so hard and as you know work stress can lead to a lot of misery. So my music allows one’s body to produce endorphins necessary for happiness.

Which of your songs would you not mind performing over and over again? 

I love all my songs especially Ntwala featuring Pallaso but Control Ft. Lydia Jazmine is one song I wouldn’t mind performing again and again. I love the beat. Producer Nash Wonder did a great Job.

Where would you like to see yourself in the next 5 years as an artist?

I would like to see myself on the global stage holding the Ugandan flag high.

As an artist how would you define success?

Global dominance in the music world and influence.

Any upto date performance plans, new releases, tours, news?

Yes! I’m Releasing my latest Afrobeat entitle Kololo Dance in the first week of April 2015. This will be in Uganda. The dates are soon to be confirmed. This will be the biggest tune of 2015 in Uganda and all over the planet. I'm that confident.

What makes your music unique/different from other artists?
My messages, Vocal range and versatility.

Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor?

I have an Acting agent but currently look for serious agent. Not Signed and Looking for a sponsor.

MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: UGANDA'S HYPER HYPE TO PERFORM AT BEFFTA AWARDS 2013

Jozyz life & Style caught up with UK based award winning Ugandan musician Hyper Hype (real name Patrick Onen) ahead of his performance at the forth coming awards ceremony on 26th October in London. Beffta awards honour personalities in entertainment, film, fashion, television and arts. Hype is nominated for Best UK Afro Beat Act/Artist 2013 in the Music Category.

JLS: How did you get your name Hyper Hype?
HH: when I first came to London i did  Dj sets at house parties, clubs and  gigs where I would hype up the crowd and that’s how I became known as Hyper Hype.

JLS: How long have you been performing and what did you do before you got into music?
HH: I’ve been performing since i was a kid. Dance and music are my first love. I always had Dj equipment and full sets of mic, turntables, speakers name it.

JLS: What made you realise you wanted to pursue a career in music?
 HH:  I was dancing and Djing as a hobby but as I got older I realised I could get paid to do what I was doing. That’s how the transition from hobby to career came about and now am getting recognition for my music.

JLS: Describe your music in three words
HH: Swag, Dynamite, Sexy.

JLS: What has been your biggest challenge on your music journey?
HH: Performing in different cities, the travelling is hard. It costs a lot for artists in terms of studio time and marketing so it’s disappointing when some event organisers don’t want to pay for artists costs. Little or no sleep these are all challenges.

JLS: Music has a great impact on the young. What advice do you have for the youth that listen to your music?
HH: Try different styles of music sometimes you might be surprised so challenge yourself. Do free shows before you start asking for pay. Listen to feedback from the fans, I started out as a rapper but feedback helps me identify what works now I do Afro Beats because i listen to other people. Stay focused, stay in school and always have a plan B. Don’t leave that part time job as it might help you finance your projects because you don’t always earn money in the beginning.

JLS: What do you enjoy best, studio or a live stage? How would you get the public to support live music and shows?
HH: I enjoy both, in the studio and when performing i get things off my chest and destress. If  am angry, happy or moody  i just lay out tracks on a CD so i jump in the booth and do some recording to get my stress out.

JLS: What is your musical influence and is it any similar to your music?
HH: I have a lot of influences especially in rap and hip hop music. At the moment my dream is to work with Mack Morrison famous for the hit “ Return Of The Mack” his swag influenced me in a lot of ways. He gave me his email so fingers crossed. I have Afro beat, reggae, hip hop, RnB, Azonto tracks so i'll be surprising with my music influences on my new album due before end 2013.

JLS: What image/message does your music conveys and why did you choose this image/message?
HH: I learned over time to respect people so that they give me respect back. I don’t steal, i don't do drugs and only drink socially. I don't like getting into trouble or arguments so usually i keep my distance from those things.  

 JLS: Which of your songs would you not mind performing over and over again?
HH: ''AFRICAN LADY' as people always ask me to perform that song.  Surprisingly i didn’t write or rehearse that song. I was on the phone to a girl on my way to the studio and she asked me to write a song about home. I got to the studio straight to the vocal booth and did the song there and then it took less than 30 minutes to loop the beats and lay out the vocals and now its a hit.

JLS: Where would you like to see yourself in the next 5 years as an artist?
HH: I don't know but in the right direction. I hope to go platinum.

JLS: As an artist how would you define success?
HH: Success is what you make. Success starts from inner self work hard and success will follow.

JLS: What are your upto date performance plans, new releases, tours, news?
HH: I have been touring UK all this year and i have bookings for the rest of the year. I’d like to work with other African artists  and event organisers in future.

JLS: What makes your music unique/different from other artists?
HH: My music is unique as i adapt to different cultures and situations. I have done collaborations with Jamaican artist (Patoise), Congo (French), BONGO (Swahili) and of course representing Uganda in Luganda and Luo/Acholi. Variety is key.

JLS: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor?
HH: I am still my own manager and just formed a new group called  L.S.G (Leaderz Of Swag Generation). I am working with the charity Our Roots and manage an artist called Lucky Bosmich Otim.  I used to mentor Stellah Reever Nsereko who won Miss Uganda this year and went on to represent Uganda at Miss World In 2013. I have acted in two Nollywood movie ''Natasha De Prodigal''and ''Home Away From Home''. I have just written a movie called 'Destiny' so adding actor to my resume the sky is the limit.
