CONVERSATION WITH JOZY: E.B.O.N.Y AMBASSADOR'S EBONY ALI

I caught up with the current Miss E.B.O.N.Y Ambassador 2017, Queen Ebony Ali a formidable charity campaigner and youth ambassador. Miss E.B.O.N.Y pageant represents Elegant, Bold, Originality, Noble, Youth ambassador contest. This is organized to crown a young black beauty from African decent to be a youth representative to her own country. This pageant will be held in London and promise to be a yearly event. The idea came into being due to my desire to have more youth representatives, believing that there is power vested on a crowned queen to reign. We need more youth role model which is why one of the many goals of the pageant is to empower the entire contestant given that any one of them can be the crowned queen. Whoever emerge the crowned queen will be given the opportunity to carry out a particular project in her own country with the help of the organizers and supporters of the pageant. The project whatsoever will be named after the Queen. MISSION/VISION: The mission of this contest is to empower African youth living in the Diaspora (United Kingdom), creating a youth ambassador with a crown to reign. However, all contestants will benefit from the skills empowerment scheme: four weeks to the D-day of the contest; workshop, seminar, and training will be organised for them to learn any of the following Skills (Basic sewing, Bead making, facial treatment, hair braiding, knitting etc) the reason been that one can survive anywhere in the world if you have a skill. The winner of the contest will execute a project in her own country; on the other hand, act as a role model to all youth as well as motivate them to invest in their various countries. The contestants will learn to be self confident (Public Speaking) as they will be involved in a great deal of presentations. In summary, the mission of the contest is to give a youth a voice to empower other youths.

What was your first job?
My first job was working as a sales assistant at New Look.
What have you done in your role so far since winning Miss E.B.O.N.Y Ambassador Beauty and creativity contest?
I have achieved so much, I've been to events in the House of Commons speaking out against gun and knife crime, charity fundraisers for Albino Children, Children in Gambia and for women who have overcome domestic violence. I was also invited as a guest to the NELLA awards and Miss Pride of Africa in 2017. However I believe that my greatest achievement as Miss E.B.O.N.Y. Ambassador was going on a mission trip back home in Nigeria, where was able to help support children and orphans in poor communities as well as empower Women in the community to learn new skills.
What do you like best about your role as Miss E.B.O.N.Y Ambassador?
It's helped to increase my confidence in public speaking and I have been honoured to have met so many people from different walks of life.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?
It's been difficult to find a balance because I work full time and I am committed to attending church regularly.
What makes you proud to work for Miss E.B.O.N.Y Ambassador?
The fact that I get to be a role model for young black females.
Can you tell us one thing people don't know about you?
I used to be afraid of cats.
What do you do outside of Miss E.B.O.N.Y Ambassador?
I work full time, enjoy writing and spending quality time with loved ones.
What is your favourite place in the world?
My favourite place in the world is being in the presence of God however I also love to travel and I've been to quite a few places. I really like the Middle East as I've been to both Qatar and Dubai.
What TV show do you never miss?
I used to watch this tv show called Pretty Little Liars but recently I've been hooked on this show on Netflix called '13 Reasons Why.'
What is your biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement is finding strength in God and the courage to face my fears by taking risks.
What skill would you most like to have?
I wish I could dance!!
What motto gets you through life?
I wouldn't say it's a motto but it's a proverb in the bible that says Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. The reason why is because life can be so confusing at times and sometimes we get lost but if we trust in God then we have hope that we will find the right path eventually.
What makes an inspiring leader?
Compassion and transparency.
Compassion because you must be understanding enough of people's struggles.
Transparency because people only follow people who they feel they can connect with on a real level.
What's the best piece of advice you could give someone?
This is something that I'm learning everyday 'the importance of never giving up on yourself- whatever mistakes you have made in life- whatever mistakes you will make in the future, ask God to help you to change but don't punish yourself if it takes you longer than you think it should. Learn to love your imperfect self.
