How did you
get your name & where do you come from?
She is currently a radio presenter on Kampala's 93.3 KFM and is enjoying
massive success with new single; “Oukawamunabi”, The Song of Hope.
JAQ is just a cool form of Jackie and Deweyi
is our family name, from our late Dad. I come from Sironko – Mbale.
I always knew i wanted to sing. I just felt
that 2013 was the right year to start because i had now settled into Radio.
Describe
your music in three words
Urban.
Afro’ Pop.
How long
have you been performing?
Since April 2013.
What is your
music career goal?
To inspire, create positive social change and
represent Eastern Uganda, East Africa and Africa on the global stage.
What has
been your biggest challenge on your music journey?
See, when you produce a product (Music), you
enter into competition with others in getting exposure for your product. You
even get into deeper competition in getting fans to purchase or come hear you
play. It’s even worse in Uganda because there are no formal structures for
music distribution or promotion.
What advice
do you have for the youth that listen to your music?
You can stay natural and true to yourself and
still be cool. Don’t try too hard, when you do the right things, you will get
noticed.
What is your
musical influence and is it any similar to your music?
Musically I am influenced by African sounds
particularly people like Brenda Fassie and Angélique Kidjo.
Do you write
your own music?
Yes, basing on personal experiences.
What
image/message does your music convey?
Inspiration and positive social change
Where would
you like to see yourself in the next 5 years as an artist?
An established and influential female artist
from Eastern Uganda, East Africa in Africa.
What are
your hopes for performing at the upcoming Life and Hope Concert?
I have hopes of making my contribution at
this charity concert by putting up a great performance to benefit all those
that will be coming to support this cause. I also hope to inspire and reach out
to those who enjoy my music and those that will be appreciating it for the
first time probably.
I have always been a Radio presenter with
different Radio Stations. Bob FM, Touch FM and now KFM.
What makes
your music unique from other artists?
I strive to make music that not only inspires
but music that you will be able to listen to 5 years later and still appreciate
and enjoy. I refuse to take a short-cut; making music that excites for now.
Call it “Bubble Gum”.
Do you
currently have an agent, endorsement, record label or sponsor?
Nope, just a manager.
Thank you so much for letting Jozyz Life & Style blog interview you. Please keep
us updated of your music and progress.
